Sustainability addresses the environmental challenges and the increasing climate change through balancing the use of the planet’s resources. In a world where our daily choices – such as consistently buying from a brand that emits large quantities of carbon into the atmosphere – have a large impact on our planet, even the smallest differences can make a difference. Makeup, or cosmetics in general, have always been part of our daily routines and as our interest and want in helping better the planet grew through club leadership roles, we wanted to make a platform that will educate and provide deeper insight into the world of sustainability and cosmetics. 

 

Makeup, for many people, is a way of connecting with others, expressing yourself, and a creative outlet. It has become a way for people to express themselves creatively and help battle mental health issues or disorders. We’ve been inspired by the rather transformative power of makeup – in the mental health region and in what makeup holds in the sustainability category. Since cosmetics have largely been reliant on single-use plastics, harmful chemicals, and unethical sourcing practices, we wanted to shed light on brands that have strayed from this “mainstream” path and have turned towards “sustainable cosmetology” or, in other words, sustainable cosmetics. 

 

This website was planned to become a space where beauty can meet self-exploration and creativity while maintaining a sustainable practice. Our hope is to help us and others explore how to care for ourselves and the planet simultaneously utilizing cosmetics through sustainable cosmetic brand lists, how to reduce waste in beauty routines, makeup tutorials, opinion articles, and more. Be-YOU-ty Planet is not only about makeup – it’s also about empowerment, conscious sustainable choices, and how all of those aspects of makeup can be, in itself, beautiful, accessible, and meaningful. Our vision is to help redefine cosmetics as an empowering and sustainable decision.
